Iranian Women Speak Out

As protests continue in Iran despite a brutal government crackdown, a California woman speaks about her hopes and fears for her home country.

Elnaz Sarbar Boczek is an Iranian-American women's rights activist. She grew up in Iran and left Iran for the US when she was 28 years old. She talks about growing up with her little brother, and realizing she had fewer rights than him as they both got older, like not being able to ride a bicycle. She also shares about run ins she had with the "morality police," when she decided to remove her hijab. Elnaz shares music and audio of the greater revolution movement in Iran, and discusses the complicated influence of religion.

Elnaz used to work as a program manager at tech companies in the Bay Area including Google but now she is attending to her newborn daughter and getting the voice of Iranian women out to the world.

Featured speakers/guests:
OutCasting continues their exploration of prejudices among professionals and how policies created without trans people in mind affect quality in medical care -- even routine medical care.

In this episode, professionals and trans people discuss what steps can be taken to foster better relationships between doctors and trans men and women.

Our guests are Dr. Marci Bowers, a transgender surgeon in California who also treats trans patients, and Michael Silverman, an attorney.

We are also joined by Jessica, Billie Rae, and Britney, three transgender women who have experienced difficulties in dealing with the healthcare system.

Much of this series was created before the Covid pandemic, and when we interviewed Michael, he was the executive director of the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund.

Wild Bearies and their mission to heal through real food and bringing communities together

The power of how ancestral knowledge of food and animals is being passed from one generation to the next

The cooperation with the Indigenous Seed Savers Network as well as Dream of Wild Health in continuing the stewardship of ancestral seeds

The story of the bean seed that came back to the tribe

The memories of her great-grandmother cooking over on open fire and the stories that were shared;
Learning how to butcher from her own grandmother;
What decolonized food is

Elena's philosophy that while food is medicine, the real medicine is in the creation and the relationships we build around food.
