2) ‘Why Do We Tell Stories’: Dr. Ramzy Baroud on Writing as Resistance, Memory, and Survival - On May 9, 2026, Pacifica station KPFK in Los Angeles, California, held an event at First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, titled "Sumud: A Celebration of Palestinian Culture, Resistance & Solidarity" (sumud is Arabic for steadfastness). It was a four-hour gathering of Palestinian artists, organizers, journalists, and intellectuals. The keynote speaker at that event was Dr. Ramzy Baroud, Palestinian historian, journalist, and editor of The Palestine Chronicle. He spoke on ‘Why Do We Tell Stories’ and his new book "Before the Flood: A Gaza Family Memoir Across Three Generations of Colonial Invasion, Occupation, and War in Palestine". During his talk, Dr. Baroud reflects on storytelling as an act of sumud, tracing the intimate relationship between memory, exile, resistance, and the struggle to preserve Palestinian humanity through words.
